Halogen bulb, also known as tungsten halogen bulb, is a type of incandescent lamp. Halogen lamps are usually used in occasions requiring concentrated illumination, such as CNC machine tools, rolling mills, lathes, turning centers and metal processing machinery, automotive headlights and rear lights, and public places such as homes, offices, and office buildings.
The principle is to inject halogen gas such as iodine or bromine into the bulb. At high temperature, the sublimated tungsten wire reacts with halogen chemically, and the sublimated tungsten will re-solidify on the tungsten wire, forming a balanced cycle to avoid premature breakage of the tungsten wire. So halogen bulbs last longer than incandescent bulbs.
Halogen bulbs also operate at higher temperatures than typical incandescent bulbs, and they are also more luminous and efficient. At these temperatures, however, ordinary glass may soften. Therefore, halogen bulbs need to use quartz glass with a higher melting point, and because quartz glass cannot block ultraviolet rays, halogen bulbs usually require additional UV filters.
If the crystal glass on the halogen bulb has oil, it will cause the temperature on the glass to vary and reduce the life of the bulb. Therefore, when changing halogen bulbs, avoid touching the glass of the bulb with your hands. If your fingers touch it, it should be cleaned with alcohol.
